CONNECTICUT BASEBALL: THE BEST OF THE NUTMEG STATE

Don Harrison, author of Connecticut Baseball: The Best of the Nutmeg State will talk about Connecticut's many  contributions to the game at the Hamden Historical Society's annual meeting on Thursday, May 12 at the Hamden Public Library,  Senior Center Hall (enter from the back of the building) 2901 Dixwell Avenue starting at 7:00 PM.  The event is open to the public at no charge.  Refreshments will follow.

The book, now in its second printing, contains interviews with 25 Connecticut natives who played in the major leagues, including the controversial Jim Piersall, Charles Nagy, Bobby Valentine, the late Frank "Spec" Shea, Steve Blass, the late Walt Dropo, John Ellis, Billy Gardener and Joe Lahoud.

Harrison, a two-time winner of the Connecticut Sportswriter of the Year award when he was sports editor and executive sports editor of the Waterbury Republican-American, has assembled an all-time team of Connecticut natives in the book-including three baseball Hall of Famers.

As former Commissioner of Baseball Fay Vincent notes in his foreward, "Don Harrison has lovingly assembled the best selections from a lifetime spent covering Connecticut's corner of the game."

After his talk, Mr. Harrison will answer questions from the audience and sign copies of his book which will be available for purchase.
