Skiff Street tunnel construction starts on Tuesday

You'll get to read more about this soon in the Register but in the meantime, here's a press release from the office of Hamden Mayor Scott D. Jackson:
Temporary Closing of a Portion of Hamden's Farmington Canal Greenway –
Construction of Hamden's Farmington Canal Skiff Street underpass will begin on
and continue through October 4, 2011
Farmington Canal Greenway between Connolly Parkway and the Dixwell Avenue Greenway
entrance south of the Hamden Middle School will be closed to the public. Trail users will be
temporarily diverted to Skiff Street. “Detour” and “Caution” signage will be posted in appropriate
locations.
The project will eliminate the need to use the existing Skiff Street crosswalk, with the construction
of a well-lit, 110 foot underpass. Safety measures include security cameras and emergency call
boxes.
Any questions or concerns during the project should be directed to Dan Kops in the Town of
Hamden Planning and Zoning Department at 203-281-7070.

Pepsi is Cleaning Up in Hamden

Hamden - Hamden has been chosen as one of this year's recipient of the Pepsi Supports Surrounding Towns Award.
As a result, the Farmington Canal Linear Trail will be the site of a clean-up on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Applications for the award were judged based on municipal demographics and quality of project
submissions. Members of Pepsico's Stratford work force will be joining together with Hamden
residents and elected officials to cover a graffitied fence visible along the Mather Street portion of the canal line.
“Corporate partnerships and volunteerism are key to the Town's strategy for maintaining a clean
community,” said Jackson. “I thank them for their generous support.”
All are welcome to come join in at 11am in the rear parking lot of Home Depot, located at 1873 Dixwell Avenue. Painting supplies will be provided and Pepsi has generously agreed to provide food and beverages following the event.
For further information, please contact Julie E. Smith in the Mayor's Office at (203) 287-7103 or
via email at jsmith@hamden.com.
