Tire Pond meeting Rescheduled in North Haven

A public meeting on the latest developments at the tire pond on State Street will take place at 7:15 p.m. Oct. 12 in the North Haven Library community room, 17 Elm St.
The meeting has been rescheduled from Oct. 6.
State Sen. Leonard A. Fasano, R-North Haven, and state Rep. Steve Fontana, D-North Haven, requested the meeting with the state Department of Environmental Protection.
The DEP plans to address concerns regarding how the material is to be moved to the site, the nature of the material, the testing of material, and the standards used to determine suitability of the materials, Fasano said.
The DEP recently presented an update of its tire pond closure plan to the Inland Wetlands Commission. Residents and commissioners are concerned about the soils from Hamden’s Newhall neighborhood that are being trucked there to cover the tire pond. The DEP has said that the soils are of commercial quality and good enough to be there. The top 2 feet of the tire pond, which is now covered, will contain soils of residential grade, according to the DEP.
