GET THAT COAT ON

The 3rd Annual Coats for a Cure coat sale will be held on Saturday October 23rd from 8am - 3pm and Sunday October 24th from 8am - 12pm at 140 Briarcliff Rd. in Hamden. EVERY coat will be sold for just $5!! There will be hundreds of jackets and coats for men, women, children and babies - and many, many brand names! As always, all proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society in memory of Patricia Carney, who passed away 2 1/2 years ago from brain cancer. Special thanks to Hamden Rental, Rainbow Cleaners and MVP Campus Laundry for helping to make this event possible.

North Haven Goes Pink for the Cure. The Connecticut Women will be donning their pink clothes and wigs while riding their motorcycles through the Town of North Haven. The Connecticut Women have posted pink ribbons on many of the trees and poles in Town. These ribbons are to remind us that for women in the United States breast cancer is the second most common cause of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death. The cycle run will begin at 11:45 a.m. from

Haven. The procession of women riders will proceed through the center district of Town, along

Washington Avenue

and end at the North Haven High School 221 Elm Street. Upon their return to the High School they will be greeted by First Selectman, Michael J. Freda who will be presenting the group with a Proclamation declaring October 23^rd Go Pink for the Cure Day in North Haven.

Prescription Medication Disposal Event, North Haven is also proud to announce that we will be holding our second Prescription Medication Disposal Event, sponsored by the North Haven Substance Abuse Prevention Council, also being held at the High School, on the

Elm Street

side entrance from 10 am to 2 pm. This event is the perfect opportunity for residents and non-residents from neighboring towns to dispose of expired and unwanted medications around their homes. The NHSAPC is urging residents to help protect their family, community, and the environment by properly disposing of medications they no longer need, it only takes a few minutes, and is confidential. All medications will be properly disposed of by a licensed medical waste disposal company. This event is important to North Haven on several levels; Turning in unused drugs ensures that they will not be used for recreational purposes and helps to keep our water clean.

Show & Sell Business and Community Expo has returned and is being held at the North Haven High School from 10 am to 3 pm. Many local businesses and community groups are participating, with a “Taste of North Haven” food court, a variety of local entertainment, performances, demonstrations, raffles, samples, “touch-a-truck” and more, the event promises to be fun for all.

Hamden, CT—The Town of Hamden is conducting a Community-wide Tag Sale to benefit the Hamden Food Bank from 8 am to 2 pm on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Town Center Park, 2761 Dixwell Avenue.  All Hamden residents are invited to take part in this worthy effort by offering items for sale or by coming to the tag sale to bargain and barter for residents' merchandise.    

            If you have items to sell, you can purchase space at the tag sale with a $20 donation to the Hamden Food Bank.  Whatever profit you make at your table are yours to keep or you can donate a portion to the Hamden Food Bank.  You must reserve your space by October 27.

            If you are interested in finding great household items at low prices, then come to the Tag Sale with cash in hand and prepared to haul your purchases home. Please bring folding tables and chairs should you require them.  In case of rain, the tag sale will be held on Sunday, October 31.

FALL FESTIVAL COMING UP

The third annual Fall Festival of the Peter’s Rock Association is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 24 at the park entrance at

The public is invited to come for a free picnic of hotdogs and soft drinks and to participate in one of two scheduled guided hikes—at 11:30 and 1:30.  There will also be activities for children and lots of information about Peter’s Rock and the work and plans of the association.
